Robert Nesta Marley (Saint Ann, Jamaica, 6 de febrero de 1945 – Florida, Estados Unidos, 11 de mayo de 1981), conocido artísticamente como Bob Marley o Tuff Gong, fue un compositor, cantante y multi-instrumentalista que popularizó mundialmente el reggae a mediados de los 70. Está considerado como uno de los artistas más importantes de su época,  ya que, a través de la fusión con otros estilos, llevó el ritmo jamaicano más popular a las estaciones de radio europeas y norteamericanas.
La carrera musical de Bob Marley comenzó en Kingston. El artista, que vivía con Bunny Wailer, recibió clases de música del cantante Joe Higgs.
Con Bunny Wailer y Peter Tosh  formó en 1963 la banda The Wailers, con la que Marley grabó y dio conciertos hasta su muerte. Los primeros trabajos del artista no tuvieron prácticamente ninguna repercusión fuera de Jamaica en el momento de su lanzamiento, pero en 1973 y gracias al álbum Burnin’ su popularidad se disparó.
El estilo musical de Bob Marley surgió de la fusión de elementos e instrumentos propios de rock, el R&B y blues con el reggae. Una de los elementos principales de sus canciones son las letras, que denunciaban los problemas sociales de Jamaica y llamaban a la sociedad a rebelarse contra el poder opresivo. Tuff Gong también popularizó el movimiento rastafari en todo el mundo.
Antes de morir a los 36 años debido a un cáncer, Bob Marley fue padre de catorce hijos, muchos de los cuales se han dedicado a la música profesionalmente y con un gran éxito, como es el caso de Damian Marley, Ky-Mani Marley y Stephen Marley.
